It’s About How You LIVE
The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization is mobilizing elders with its “It’s About How You LIVE” project. “It’s about How You Live” is a national community engagement campaign encouraging individuals to make informed decisions about end-of-life care and services. The campaign encourages people to:
- Learn about options for end-of-life services and care
- Implement plans to ensure wishes are honored
- Voice decisions to family, friends and health care providers
- Engage in personal or community efforts to improve end-of-life care
It IS about how you live, even when you or a loved one is struggling with serious medical condition. You still have choices! Everyone deserves to understand their options for care, make their wishes known and have them honored. This is fundamental to our values and beliefs at Otterbein. In fact, our one strategic goal is to lead the United States in liberating elders, and those who serve them, from the mindset of institutional care.
Otterbein hospice is another way we are liberating elders. It’s our goal to support elders’ choices for quality of life and holistic care. According to our CEO, Jill Hreben, “Hospice for our Otterbein family is a must. Should one of our elders choose not to pursue aggressive medical care at the end of life, we want to keep them in our family of loving care—not transfer them to another facility.”
Otterbein Hospice is now serving elders in the Otterbein family and in the greater community with compassionate end of life care. But even then--It’s about how we live!
